The application process to get solar power for your home (Solar Rooftop System) has been simplified under the Central Government’s ambitious scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana’.

Earlier, applicants had to travel to DISCOM offices with a lot of documents to register under the Surya Ghar scheme. Now, there is no such hassle. Everything has been digitized; applications can be submitted on the scheme’s website in just five minutes.
The Ministry of Renewable Energy has explained that since the launch of the Surya Ghar scheme, the installation of solar units has been increasing tenfold every month; the target is to install 10 lakh solar rooftops by March 2025 and to complete the installation of one crore units by 2027.
300 units of free electricity per month
Millions of solar rooftops have been installed across the country. More than Rs 3,100 crore in subsidy money has already been disbursed. The Ministry of Renewable Energy has informed that a significant number of applications are being received as the subsidy is being received by the households adopting the scheme within 15 days.
You will also get subsidy and loan to install a solar power plant in your home. Due to this, the beneficiaries will not have to pay any electricity bill. They will get free electricity up to 300 units per month. You can also generate and sell the excess electricity.

Under the Surya Ghar scheme, the government is providing subsidy of fixed amount to units of various capacities as follows:
- 1 kilowatt- ₹30,000
- 2 kilowatts- ₹60,000
- 3 kilowatts- ₹78,000
How to apply under Surya Ghar scheme?
Those interested in installing a solar unit for their home have been given the opportunity to apply directly and just as quickly on the ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Mufti Bijla Yojana website‘. As mentioned earlier, applications can now be submitted within five minutes at pmsuryaghar.gov.in .
For this, first visit the website https://www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in/ . Then click on ‘Apply for Rooftop Solar’ . Select your DISCOM. Register through mobile number and email. Fill in the required information and apply.
