Post Office Franchise Eligibility-Who can apply for a post office franchise?
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- The candidate must have passed at least 8th grade.
- The candidate must be 18 years of age.
- To start an office, you must have a shop/building of 100 square feet.
- Should not have any criminal background.
Post Office Franchise Investment-How much investment is required:
The candidate will have to make an initial investment of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh depending on the area and services they choose to start a post office franchise. And will have to deposit a security deposit of Rs. 5000 with the postal department and pay an application fee of Rs. 5000. SC, ST and women will be exempted from this fee.
Post Office Franchise Income 2025: How much money can you earn by taking up a Post Office Franchise?
The amount of money that can be earned by taking up an India Post franchise depends on the type of franchise, the volume of business, and the services provided. India Post offers two types of franchises: Postal Agent Franchise and Outreach Franchise. In both these franchises, the earnings are based on commission. The details are given below:
1) Postal Agent Franchise Services:
Stamp and stationery sales, speed post, registered post, money order, and other postal services.
Commission: Stamps and Stationery: 5% commission on sales.
Speed Post/Registered Post: ₹3-₹5 commission per article.
Money Order: 3-5% commission on total transaction.
Bill Payments: ₹2-₹5 per transaction.
Maximum Earnings: Earnings depend on local demand and number of customers. On an average, a small franchise can earn ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 per month. It may be less in rural or semi-urban areas, but in urban areas with high turnover, it can earn ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh.
2) Outreach Franchise Services:
It operates in rural and sparsely populated areas. It offers stamp sales, registered post, money orders, and sometimes India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) services.
Commission: 5% commission on stamp sales.
₹2.50-₹5 per article for registered post/speed post.
For IPPB transactions (e.g., account opening, deposits) ₹10-₹50 per transaction.
Maximum earnings: In rural areas, one can earn ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 per month. If IPPB services are included, the earnings can increase up to ₹30,000.
How to Apply for Post Office Franchise?
Those interested in taking up a post office franchise should first visit the website of the Department of Posts (www.indiapost.gov.in) and download the application form. Then fill the application form and submit it along with the necessary documents to your district post office. After that, the officials will review your application and if you are eligible, you will be given a postal franchise. Training in this regard will also be provided by the Department of Posts.
