Ration Card New Rules: The Ministry of Food and Public Distribution of the Government of India has amended many important rules related to ration card in the year 2025. The main objective of these new rules is to bring transparency in the ration distribution system and ensure its benefits to only eligible persons. This decision of the government is an important step towards making the public distribution system of the country even stronger.
According to the new guidelines issued by the ministry, now ration card holders will have to get their eligibility verified regularly. This will help the government to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries are distributed subsidized food grains.
KYC requirement and deadlines
The most important change for ration card holders is the mandatory requirement of KYC (Know Your Customer). The government has clearly announced that all ration card holders must complete their KYC process by July 2025. This process is extremely important for the continuity of the ration card.
Those whose KYC is not yet complete should immediately go to their nearest ration shop or food department office and get it completed. If KYC is not done, the ration card may become inactive and the benefits of all government schemes may stop.
Revised Eligibility Criteria
According to the new rules, significant changes have also been made in the eligibility criteria for ration card. Now only those families will get the benefit of ration card whose annual family income is between Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,00,000. Apart from this, the applicant should be above 18 years of age and should be the head of the family.
According to the new conditions, there should not be any agricultural land or four wheeler in the name of the applicant. Also, no member of the family should be in a government job nor pay income tax. It is also mandatory for all the members of the families fulfilling all these conditions to have an Aadhar card.
New changes in food distribution
A good news for ration card holders is that now they will get different types of spices along with traditional food grains like wheat, rice, sugar and oil. This change has been made keeping in mind the daily needs of ration card holders. This will help poor families a lot in fulfilling their kitchen needs.
In some states, a special arrangement has been made in view of the monsoon season. In these states, ration card holders will be given three months’ ration at once. This will save the trouble of going to the ration shop again and again during the rainy days.
Ration card holders are advised to maintain regular contact with their nearest food department office and keep getting information about all the new rules. It is very important to get KYC done on time and keep the documents updated. By following all these rules, ration card holders can continuously avail the benefits of government schemes.
